Ray Newkirk is a Santa Cruz green building and general contractor. While Ray has built numerous homes and additions in our area, including a 2-story 2500 square foot straw bale, his focus for the past 25 years has been on renewable energy, passive solar design, rain water catchment and providing biodiesel to our community.
Ray Newkirk truly thinks outside the box
With an eye for detail, functional form, energy efficiency, innovative designs & materials mixed with vision & skill that can only be gained through experience, Ray has a knack for making clients’ dreams a reality.
Having been in the trades since the early ’80s he has built numerous homes & additions in our area and repaired & remodeled too many to count.
As at least a 3rd generation builder (Dad & Grandpa were builders and the name Newkirk comes from an ancestor who built churches in Scotland) building runs in Ray’s blood. Having done all aspects of building from the foundation to the roof, a deep understanding of your building is inherent in making your project one of lasting beauty that meets or exceeds your vision of comfort and artistic livability.
Santa Cruz Green Building Working Group
As the only contractor that participated in the City of Santa Cruz Green Building Working Group, Ray has been at the forefront of Green Building. And if you think Green Building codes and the permit checklist are a pain in the butt, believe me, they would have been worse without a contractor to bring some sense to the process
